Durham is known for its castle and cathedral. It is just a small city in county Durham.
Durham Cathedral is the greatest Norman building in England, perhaps even in Europe (that's what their website says!!). Like most big cathedrals: very large, very old, very inspiring, and very tall ceilings. There is also a shrine for St. Cuthbert there. No photography, so no photos of the interiors. I do remember being intrigued by a statue, which is really a very neat piece of wood carving.
I also found this door knocker absolutely enthralling!
Durham castle, taken from outside the cathedral. It is now accommodation to students of Durham University. Neat.
